IFL ANNOUNCES PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

WEEK 5 April 7-11

Richmond, VA: Another week of exciting football action has come and gone and while Indoor Football is a team game, a few individuals certainly stood out.  Hard hitting action combined with nail biting finishes made for a thrilling Week Five.

WEEK FIVE CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK –WR O.J. SIMPSON / OMAHA BEEF

The Beef felt the pressure all game from Abilene and narrowly escaped with a 52-46 victory.  The catalyst for the Omaha attack was the sure hands of WR O.J. Simpson.  The Beef receiver seemed to be open all game as he accumulated 129 receiving yards, with a long of 37, on 11 catches including three touchdowns.  In total he racked up 183 all-purpose yards and helped Omaha even up their record at 2-2.

WEEK FIVE CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – QB CHRIS DIXON / BILLINGS OUTLAWS

Billings only needed their first offensive possession to set the tone in the most lopsided game of the year.  The strong arm of Quarterback Chris Dixon lit up the Fairbanks defense for seven touchdowns on 10 of 11 passing for 179 yards.  His longest completion was heaved 37 yards for a score.  His outstanding numbers would be impressive in any game, however Dixon did all of work in just the first half!

WEEK FIVE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEKDB EARNEST SMITH / SAGINAW STING

It’s difficult for any Quarterback to have success when he can’t find an open receiver.  Defensive back Earnest Smith blanketed receivers for the entire contest, frustrating the Thunder Offense.  Smith recorded 8 tackles (6 solo) on the night and intercepted 2 passes contributing to 19 total lost yards.  Not only were his defensive efforts attributed to the win, his 121 all-purpose yards enabled the Sting to win their third game of the season.

WEEK FIVE SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK– K PARKER DOUGLASS/ SIOUX FALLS STORM

Often great special teams play goes unnoticed and doesn’t receive the same accolades as many other positions do.  But it was hard not to notice the performance by Sioux Falls Kicker Parker Douglass.  The strong legged Douglass connected on 3 of 4 field goal tries making kicks of 23, 47, and 28 yards.  His only miss was a 51 yard attempt.  He also finished the night perfect on all of his extra point attempts.

The season resumes Friday night, April 17, with Rochester travelling to Muskegon for what promises to be a hard-hitting IFL battle. Game time is 7:00pm. Follow all the action at www.goifl.com and on the B2 broadcasts www.b2livetv.com of each game all season long.
