Saginaw Sting Player Spotlight Randy Degg - OL/DL #55

03.29.09 - by Ben Murphy

To get ready for a game Randy Degg likes to blast Millions of Brazillians through his headphones.
“They're just a fast paced rock group with a real original sound,” he said.

During the game Degg plays on the offensive and defensive lines for the Saginaw Sting. As the center and long snapper on offense, and a nose guard on defense, Degg feels he has the tools in order to be successful in the indoor game.

“The success I've had so far playing football is just a hard work ethic and being able to be coached,” he said. “I would say I am more of a power player (over a fast player.)”

Degg concentrates on the quarterback on both sides of the ball: Protecting him on offense, and making his life miserable on defense.

“Whether it's getting to the quarterback or trying to stop someone from getting to the quarterback (are my roles,)” he said. “As a lineman we have to make sure that our assignments are being done.”

Degg, who currently lives in Freeland, graduated from Pinconning High School in 2002 before moving on to play collegiately at Northwood. After Northwood, Degg moved to the Arena Football League 2, where he played for the Fort Wayne Fusion in 2007 and the Amarillo Busters in 2008.

“I got with the Sting because I'm from the area,” he said. “Amarillo was 2300 miles away from home and I didn't feel that was any better of an opportunity than to play with the Sting. So I thought I might as well stay at home.”

In his spare time Degg is currently pursuing opportunities as a screen writer. While he hasn't had anything published yet, Degg has a few plans in the works.

“I have a couple of short series but I'm working more towards a movie,” he said. “That's going to take a long time. You don't just do that overnight.”
